Executed: David Temple’s Deadly Affair
On January 11, 1999, David Temple told police that he came home from shopping with their three-year old son and found the body of his wife, Belinda, at 5:40 PM in the master bedroom of their house. At the time of her death, Belinda was 30 years old and eight months pregnant with a baby girl who they were going to name Erin.
For a short while, the authorities also suspected a next-door neighbor named Riley Joe Sanders III to be responsible for the murder but couldn’t find any hard evidence against him. Riley Joe was a student in Belinda Temple’s high school and lived next door to the Temples. Many of the investigators were clearly suspicious of David from the beginning, telling his parents that in 85% of the cases in which a wife is killed the husband is guilty. It also didn’t help that pretty early in the investigation police discovered David had been having an affair with one of his coworkers at school, Heather Scott. Heather had tried to end the affair a few days before the murder at which point David had confessed his love for her.
